How to tie your boat fishing along a pier / Pier
Nothing scares boaters and fans more than trying drive their boat up parallel alongside a structure such as a jetty or Pier. Have you ever driven your boat too much in battery? If so, here are some tips to help prevent damage to your boat and your ego.
The following points are useful to boaters with an outboard motor or stern drive inside.
First, the reader of your boat slow. When approaching an object on the water, you should approach the slowest speed in which your ship can still operate. If you go too slow controls can not work, so having a bit of what goes to the lowest speed of your boat can still maintain control. The slower you go the more time you have to react to any situation that might occur if this point is essential.
Make sure everyone on board is prepared and knows what side you come in. Have secured ropes ready to attach to your boat but make sure these lines are kept on board while the boat moves in water so they do not get tangled around the propeller. The tides, wind and boat all the other effects of your approach circuit so make sure you evaluate your options and choose the best way to proceed. You must avoid other boat users and try to go in the wind or current (the greatest strength). If your boat is big and you have the wings, it is time to put in place.
You should approach the pier about an angle of 45 degrees. Try to keep your speed at least 100 feet before reaching the pier. Once about two lengths boat from the pier it is time to take action.
Tower controls away from the pier. This will cause the return of boats to swing in end to the pier. The initial turn need not be violent, because even a small get round the stern swinging in.
Once the above has started to occur to stop the engine in neutral and let the momentum of the boat pushing the boat along the jetty.
If are slowly drifting in, turn the motor in the propeller faces the dock (ie turn the wheel toward the pier). This feel upside what you should do, but it will not impact on the direction of the boat that the engine is stalled.
Once you are at a distance reaching the jetty, change the engine to reverse and give the engine a little gas. If done correctly and the engine propeller is facing the pier reverse thrust will push in the back of the boat to the pier. Once again, the controller does not need to be violent. Just a short burst engines, then returned to neutral position and the momentum should push in the back along the pier.
If done correctly all the boat should now be parallel to the pier. Be sure to attach the boat immediately to prevent the boat is drifting again. The whole process is now complete.
The above process can be a bit intimidating at first a bit much Practice goes a long way. Try practicing against an object like a forgiving platform with rubber side guards or down to put the wings mitigate any impact. With a little practice you are sure to become comfortable with this maneuver.
